First year of business lessons
by Alyssa on Jan.22, 2010, under Marketing, Social Media
So I’ve officially completed my first year in this business and I’ve learned a lot. Not just about business but also about Internet Marketing and Social Networking.
In business I’ve realized to keep all the paperwork (or e-work as I call it) tight shipped. No bending the rules for any clients. Contracts are created for a reason and that reason is to keep business on task and creditable.
I’ve also learned that like this business, clients come and go. These days, no one has the money to keep a marketing firm but everyone really needs one. A lot of the clients I have are project clients and that’s okay by me. Although it’s not a steady income, there is always research to do to pull those clients a new lead and you never know, maybe one of these leads will make them realize how important marketing is or at least get them some more profit so I can stay on permenantly.
As for things learned about social media and marketing…nothing new but lots of new twists and turns. In the last year no one has really stepped out with an awesome new idea like Facebook, YouTube or Twitter did but these developers are getting crazy inventive. And it’s funny to me because really all they are doing is making my job easier. With things like apps I don’t need to spend nearly as much time with my fingers to the board and can focus more on creating things with my son and playing Wii games.
In all this year in business for me hasn’t been too bad. Yea I wish I had made a little more “dosh” but in all at least I came out on top this year. (Beat the statistcs of first year profit loss.)
So I guess the next step is to set my goals for this year and then my plan to reach them? Whatever it may be, hopefully you’ll stick with me to find out.

Miami Herald speaks of social media
by Alyssa on Jul.28, 2009, under Marketing, Social Media
In my daily browsing today, I found a good article from the Miami Herald about the importance of social media marketing and doing it correctly.
Find the article here…http://www.miamiherald.com/business/story/1158112.html.
“But Shankman doesn’t advise his clients to use social media in traditional, established ways. Instead, Shankman urges small-business owners to think outside the box.”
Hey that’s what I’ve been saying but coming from the mouth of Peter Shankman makes it a little more effective.
Oh well maybe someday I’ll have that effect on people. ‘Til then…
